**NEW ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS 6 WEEK COURSE DETAILS HERE!**
Hello and welcome to Phoenix Bellydance! Ahalan wa sahalan!
We are a bellydance club based in Billericay, Essex. Phoenix has been running for five years now, and we dance a variety of choreographies from beginner to advanced. My name is Ruth, and after two and a half years with the club, I've recently taken over leading the classes, and I'll be teaching a Beginners course very soon. We're always looking for new recruits to join our happy band- are you up for it?
Learn to Bellydance with Phoenix
OK, so why should you come and learn bellydance with us? Because it's fun. :) It's also good exercise, tones muscles, improves your body confidence, improves your co-ordination, you'll make good friends, and it generally just makes you feel good about being YOU! It's amazing how relaxed you can feel after a class- I put it down to the fact that all the things you've been stressing about throughout the day just seem to fall by the wayside when you're dancing. :) Our classes are informal and relaxed, just like us. We dance Egyptian style bellydance, and mostly keep to the traditional ethic of Arabic dancing- a group of ladies who dance with each other, for each other. Occasionally we will perform at charity events etc. but no one is obliged to do so!
We also dance A.T.S. or American Tribal Style, which is a fusion of bellydance and other folkloric dances from the Middle East, India, Spain and North Africa. It's an improvisational style, based on a 'vocabulary' of movements, each with its own cue, which allows you to communicate with the other dancers in your group. We follow Fat Chance Belly Dance format, as devised by Carolena Nericcio.

Bellydance Beginner?
Never danced before? Not a problem! Don't want to show your belly? Then don't! It's not compulsory- please dress however you feel comfortable. Worried that you're curvy, and afraid everyone else will be skinny size zero? Don't be, we're not! All you really need is a sense of humour and your enthusiasm! Anyone can bellydance, come and give it a go!
Please contact us for details of the next beginner sessions available, or check our Facebook page for updates.
